To provide participants with the knowledge and skills to correctly operate a portable gas detection device and to sign the Permit to Work form and enter gas test results. Permitted to enter a confined space to carry out a gas test

 

On completion of this activity, participants will be able to demonstrate a competence in the theory and practice of the following:

 

•  Confined Space Hazards

•  Types of gases found and their properties

•  Effective ventilation techniques

•  Pre use checks of the Gas Detection unit

•  After use maintenance of the unit

•  Proficiency in the use of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus SCBA

•  Understanding of the behaviour of gases

•  Flammable gases and extinguishing medium

•  Roles and responsibilities of the Stand-by person

•  Correct operation and identify the components of the unit

•  Identify the different modes of operation and alarms
